The entire core of Back to the Future hinges on us just accepting that 17-year-old high school student Marty is friends with a much older man. In fact, Doc Brown isn’t only Marty’s friend – he seems to be his ONLY friend. We’ve heard of May-September romances, but May-September friendships?
How many teenagers do you know who are best friends with people old enough to be their grandparents? The official novelization says Doc’s 65, which means there’s a half a century age gap. And Marty goes to meet this man at the mall, in the middle of the night… Maybe the Libyans were onto something!
