[post_page_title]No escaping the grandfather paradox[/post_page_title]
Time travel movies, as Avengers: Endgame pointed out, have inherent contradictions. The most famous is the grandfather paradox – a dude goes back in time and shoots his grandfather, before either of his parents are born. But if he prevented one parent from being born, he couldn’t have been born himself and couldn’t have gone back in time.
Back to the Future has the same issue. After arriving in 1955, Marty prevents his parents from getting together, leading to his gradual evaporation from existence. But if he had completely evaporated, he couldn’t have been alive in 1985 and gotten back in time to break them up.
