The series was designed not to run for many years, but to be a masterpiece to do the novel of the same name justice. Stephen E. Ambrose’s book followed a band of American soldiers while going about their duties, which resonated with a large audience.
The estimated cost per episode was determined to be around $12.5 million, rounding up to be a cost of $125 million for the entire production. It remains a memorable production today, despite being run in September to November 2001.
