‘Marco Polo’ was a very ambitious show that seemed to spend more money than it made. The cost per episode was estimated to be around $9 million. The reason for this extreme spending was that it was filmed in a wide variety of locations.
Some of the locations include Kazakhstan and Italy while the show was produced in Malaysia. While the show was undoubtedly popular, it wasn’t popular enough to make its money back and ended up making a loss. Not such a fantastic risk.
