This show absolutely took off with fans and even gained its own convention after the first couple of series. In many ways, people felt that showing some of the problems female inmates face, along with some of the hilarious and awful drama that happens, was important.
The show had a production cost of $4 million per episode and ran from 2013 all the way until 2019. It might not have lasted as long as some of the others, but it sure did demand a huge expense from the showrunners.
