In the 1995 comedy Friday, there’s a scene where a character named Felicia (Angela Means-Kaaya) wants to borrow things from Smokey (Chris Tucker), who doesn’t want to lend her anything. As a way to get rid of her, Craig Jones (Ice Cube) simply says “Bye, Felicia.”
Fast forward to a few years later, and the phrase “Bye, Felicia” is now a meme and a popular way to wave off any person you might want to dismiss. Too bad for the people who are actually name Felicia – they always hear the “bye,” but never the “hi.”
