It was June 25, 1998, when a fire broke out in an apartment building on Washington Street in Connecticut. This wasn’t just a routine call for the emergency services in the area as they knew people were in grave danger if they didn’t get there in time. Inside was five-year-old Josibel Aponte. The youngster was staying with her uncle Jofrey while her mother was at work, but things were about to take a turn that she would never forget.
Josibel admits that her memory is hazy. However, she remembers smoke filled the room before she tried to wake up her sleeping uncle. Sadly, nothing Josibel did was enough to get his attention. It wasn’t long before Josibel remembers nothing but darkness as the smoke finally took over her small body. They were both left fighting for their lives.
