This miscommunication might have cost Tony his life. As he looks over at Dr. Strange, Tony sees him holding up one finger, meaning that Dr. Strange is telling Stark that they are in the one timeline in which they won, and Tony has to do what he’s thinking.
Understanding that, Tony takes the Infinity Stones from Thanos, and uses them to snap Thanos and his army away, giving his life in the process. But what if Dr. Strange just meant ‘take the stones and use one of them against Thanos’? Oops.
