Neither teens nor kids are very smart in horror movies. At least not the ones who are the dominant decision makers everyone listens to. And the one actually smart kid who doesn’t think it’s a good idea to go into the house, caves as soon as the bully leader calls him chicken.
If the smart ones would just be confident enough to say “sure, I’m chicken”…well, then that wouldn’t be a very interesting horror movie, now would it?
