Tom and Jerry is the type of cartoon for children that would probably not fly today, due to their running gags involving violence. In his efforts to get Jerry, Tom uses all sort of weapons and explosives, and in retaliation, Jerry gets even more creative.
We watched Tom getting smashed, electrocuted, and sliced too many times, and yet, he was always fine after that. No wonder they served as inspiration for The Itchy and Scratchy Show, the fictional animation featured on The Simpsons.
