We still can’t quite believe that after 12 seasons, ‘The Big Bang Theory’ has finally come to an end. The sitcom has been one of the most dominant shows on TV in recent years, so we’re not sure what to do now it’s over. Of course, while CBS might not be pumping out any more new episodes, we can still appreciate all the ones that aired over the last 12 years. There are plenty of amazing moments squeezed into those 279 episodes, although some certainly stand out more than the rest.
The Love Car Displacement
When ‘The Big Bang Theory’ began, the main cast was made up of just five people. However, that changed after the introduction of Mayim Bialik and Melissa Rauch as Amy and Bernadette, respectively. These two brought an incredible sense of humor to the show, and that was clear in ‘The Love Car Displacement.’
This was one of the first episodes that weaved everyone’s stories together and demonstrated the beauty of an ensemble cast. Everyone was on their A-game here, with the amazing chemistry between everyone clear to see. This was one of those episodes that was hard not to love, even if it didn’t contribute much to any overarching storylines.
The Opening Night Excitation
While ‘The Big Bang Theory’ typically focused on comedy, it wasn’t afraid to show it had heart from time to time. That was never clearer than in ‘The Opening Night Excitation’ which saw Sheldon and Amy sleep together for the first time.
This was a huge moment for the show because it really demonstrated how far the two characters had come over the years. It was almost impossible to envision Sheldon with a woman at the start of the series, so to see him jump into something so monumental was touching. Plus, it was hilarious seeing it juxtaposed with Leonard, Raj, and Howard’s nervous excitement about seeing the new Star Wars film.
The Scavenger Vortex
Throughout its run, ‘The Big Bang Theory’ established some obvious pairings. There were the romantic couplings like Leonard and Penny, as well as the best friend bonds like Howard and Raj. However, the show used ‘The Scavenger Vortex’ as an opportunity to put together some duos we’d never really seen before.
Watching Howard and Amy, and Leonard and Bernadette work together was an interesting experience. It wasn’t until this episode that we realized we’d rarely seen these pairings before, and the results were hilarious. Of course, the combination of Sheldon and Penny was something we were no strangers to, but that didn’t matter. These two were always comedy gold.
The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis
Everyone in ‘The Big Bang Theory’ did their part to make the show great, and the sitcom wouldn’t have been the same without any of them. However, there’s no denying that Sheldon Cooper was the star. His character stood out more than any other, and his moments of comedic genius were exceptional.
Perhaps the best example of this is in ‘The Bath Item Gift Hypothesis.’ Sheldon spent the entire episode fretting about what he could buy Penny which would be considered equal to her gift. However, none of it was enough after she handed him a napkin signed by Leonard Nimoy. He was so beside himself that he plied her with gift baskets, but after realizing that wasn’t enough, he relented and gave her a hug.
With nearly 300 episodes to choose from, it’s hard to single out a few as being the best. However, these episodes were definitely all a great joy to watch.
