For many years, the Queen has reigned over Great Britain and the Commonwealth and has been the face of the country. This role was never expected and was a great shock to Elizabeth. The reason for this is because she spent a lot of her early years truly believing that she would never become Queen.
The reason for this was because of a scandal that occurred when Elizabeth was just ten years of age. When King Edward VIII chose love over power, abdicating the throne to marry a divorcee, Elizabeth’s father, his younger brother, took the throne instead. This, ultimately, led to her becoming Queen when she did.
