To this family, this was better than choosing to be split up into separate shelters. Ebony felt awful that this was the childhood she was giving to her children; these were her kids’ experiences. She didn’t want them to be living out the back of a car.
However, none of them could bear the thought of being completely split up because there was never enough room in shelters for all of them together. It all started once she realized she couldn’t afford an apartment.
