Paul explained that Barbara had actually experienced some physical signs of pregnancy, and her stomach swelled as it would in pregnancy. She even began lactating as a pregnant woman would and experienced morning sickness.
These physical signs were enough, along with Barbara’s words, to make Paul believe she was pregnant. The nurses showed him the results of the test and made absolutely sure he knew that Barbara was definitely not pregnant. It was too much for him to bear.
