Although Steve’s adoptive parents were over the moon to learn that their son knew for certain where he came from, they also felt extremely guilty about the situation.
That’s because they believed that they had cheated their son out of a real life, and they couldn’t believe that their child had actually been a missing baby for so many years. They felt for Mark, and they felt guilty that they had raised his child as their own without his knowledge. They encouraged Steve to contact his real family, but he was unsure.
