The best ’90s movies to watch on Netflix

The ‘90s brought about some of the best things in life. Sure the fashion was questionable at times but there is no doubt that some of the movies from the ‘90s have left an impressionable mark on us. Many of these have topped our charts and will remain there for years to come.

If you are feeling nostalgic, here are some of the best ‘90s movies to stream on Netflix this weekend.

Armageddon

Speaking of Liv Tyler, who can forget the brave team of blue-collar workers that saved the planet in the nick of time. Armageddon is undoubtedly one of Michael Bay’s finest cinematic creations. When an asteroid gets thrown out of orbit, it is up to a group of deep-core drillers to save the Earth and prevent it from colliding with the monstrous rock. The nail-biting action coupled with a brilliant cast will leave you on the edge of your seat. Warning! It may be difficult to hold back the emotions once Aerosmith’s tear-jerking hit song “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” starts to play!

Empire Records

Empire Records may not have been as popular as the cult classic Clueless, but it certainly left an impression. This coming of age movie follows the story of a group of friends who work at an independent record store in Delaware. When the group gets wind that the store will be sold to a big chain franchise, they pull out all the stops and place high-risk bets to keep Empire Records in business. Renée Zellweger, Liv Tyler, and Robin Tunney are a few faces you can expect to see working behind the record counter. The awesome soundtrack and comical plot makes this the perfect movie to watch on a Saturday night in.

The Waterboy

H20 enthusiast Bobby Boucher Jr. is one of Adam Sandler’s most memorable characters. Bobby, who has spent the last 31 years of his life living with his overprotective mother finds himself as the new linebacker for the Mud Dogs. While Bobby’s mother is against the idea, it doesn’t stop the waterboy from attending college or playing his heart out on the field.

Matilda

It’s been 23 years since the release of the critically acclaimed Matilda, and we still haven’t gotten over the scene in which Miss Trunchbull spins poor Amanda Thripp by her angelic blonde pigtails. Despite being mistreated by her callous parents and headmaster, Matilda uses her intellect and telekinetic powers to help her fellow pupils and teacher, Miss Jennifer Honey put an end to Miss Trunchbull’s reign over Crunchem Hall. While Matilda may have only grossed a mere $33 million at the box office, it is a touching movie that captures the true spirit of Roald Dahl’s book.
