Podcasts are big business these days, and they are one of the mediums that has become much more popular in recent times. The interest in listening to others talk as you go about your day first emerged with audiobooks, and podcasts have taken things to another level. This is especially due to the fact that there are so many different topics for modern podcasts these days.

If you have a smartphone, you will have access to all manner of different podcasts, and this is something you should make the most of. Being a geek has now become much more mainstream, and one of the main reasons for this is due to the number of geeky podcasts there are out there to enjoy; these are some of the best ones that you need to check out right now.

Crudely Drawn Swords

This is almost the peak of geekdom as it is a podcast that has the listener essentially listening to a group of people playing a game. To many people, this would sound dull, but to RPG and Dungeons & Dragons geeks, this is something that is both engaging and enjoyable. And, to be fair to the guys and girls at Crudely Drawn Swords, they manage to turn their tabletop board game into an epic adventure that their listeners also feel as though they are a part of too.

The Nerdist

The clue is pretty much in the name here, and The Nerdist is the perfect podcast for geeks everywhere. Not only does it embrace its geekiness, but the whole entire podcast is actually built around exploring what it means to be a nerd. The podcast is notable for interviewing entertainers and people in the public eye, sometimes in really laid back situations. The podcast has since changed its name to ID10T but continues to operate under much the same premise.

MFM

MFM is one of a growing number of increasingly popular weekly true crime podcasts. There are a lot of similar casts out there similar to this, but what makes this one so special is the hosts, Georgia Hardstark and Karen Kilgariff. The two inject some much-needed levity into a subject that can get pretty heavy at times, but they also look at some of the most fascinating homicide cases in the United States. The podcast has received praise for its ability to normalize a love of true crime and has a hugely popular female following.

SModcast

SModcast is a weekly podcast featuring perhaps the Godfather of Geek himself, Kevin Smith. The Clerks director is joined by editor and childhood pal Scott Mosier, and they discuss all things geek-related, as well as occasional updates on Smith’s career as well. This long-running podcast is definitely well-known in the geek community, and those familiar with Smith’s work will know that he is quite the raconteur. This is a funny and absorbing podcast, with two guys whose geekiness has pretty much come to define them.

As you can imagine, there are plenty of geek podcasts out there for you to explore and examine, and these are some of the best. You need to make sure you do as much as you can to indulge and sample some of these in order to get your geek fix. Of course, there are plenty more too, but these are some that offer the best array of geek and nerd culture experiences.
